Interior of Cafe Sari showing whitewashed brick walls, wooden tables, colourful dress rack and hand-painted cafe sign

Made by the owners, every day

Owner-chef couple. Cowes village. Everything handmade.

The couple behind the kitchen

Ingrid and Peter didn't come to Cowes to open a café. They came because they were ready to cook for people the way they actually wanted to cook, after years doing it at other people's tables.

Between them, they worked at some of Melbourne's most respected kitchens: the Espy, Mad Cowes, Temuku Soul Food, Lil' Honey, Cafe Blue Bamboo. At Cafe Sari, those years of craft show up in every plate. Not as theatre, but as the quiet confidence of people who know what they're doing.

Say hello

Not a chain. Not a trend. Just Cafe Sari.

Cafe Sari is a village café in Cowes run by two owner-chefs who cook everything themselves. No kitchen brigade, no franchise playbook. Ingrid and Peter are behind the counter every morning, which is why the eggs Benedict tastes the way it does.

The dress rack, the novelty mugs, the chalkboard that changes with whatever they feel like cooking: it is all intentional. This is a place built around the actual personalities of the people who own it, not a brand manual.

If you have come from one of the trendier spots in town and found yourself disappointed, this is the alternative. Serious cooking in a genuinely relaxed room, at prices that do not require a rethink.

What we're known for

A few of the things guests keep coming back for. The full menu changes with the seasons.

Eggs Benedict

Proper poached eggs on thick sourdough with rasher bacon and hollandaise, in portions that justify the drive.

Homemade Cakes

Made here, in portions you genuinely don't expect to see anymore.

Big Pot of Tea

Proper leaf tea, generous pot, no extra charge for taking your time.

Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough

Avocado, good eggs, real sourdough, no fuss about it.

Fresh Sandwiches

Handmade, filled properly, the kind you tell people about afterwards.

Milkshake

Made in-house, the way they were before they became a café trend.

Avo Jaffle

A jaffle done right: avocado inside, golden and crisp outside, fresh enough to eat the whole thing without pausing.

Flat White

Large, flavourful, in a mug you won't see anywhere else.

Bacon, Egg and Cheese Turkish

Turkish bread, generously filled, cooked while you wait.

Chai Latte

Strong spiced chai with real foam and a dusting of chocolate, not the powdered kind.
